Elixir.  Synopsis.

Elixir takes place 261 years from now, in an alter-ego of the United States.  Over time, with all of the world's warring, disease, hatred, and blood lust, humans have become numb and gray-lifed, neither caring nor uncaring. They call this "lifestyle" Unfeeling. As Unfeeling takes place in your heart and your mind (and it always does, there's no way around it in such dismal times) you become resistant to all of the heartfelt emotions like love and hate, and you stop caring deeply for other humans.

There has been one other major breakthrough in those future years, the discovery of light speed.  As present-day scientists have figured, light years are different than Earth years.  In the desperate times back in the 21st century, people are rushing to escape on these light-speed spaceships, or "Fliches" as they're renamed, and travel in space for two week's time, only to be brought back to Earth, unaged, two hundred years in the future.

The story centers around our narrator, Lay Skyler, an average teen awaiting the fateful age of eighteen in Chicago. When Gabrielle, a feisty girl from 2070 and Brooke, a gorgeous Frenchman who is loyal to Gabrielle and Gabrielle only, who are both dangerously Feeling, "Flinch" into Lay's life and kidnap her as they see a potential for her to change, she begins to see things in a new light. But problems and emotions arise that she never had to deal with back in Unfeeling Chicago, and Lay has to choose her own path for the first time in her life.
